Description
This dataset contains occurrence records of the genus Juniperus based on research material collected by the Institute of Dendrology, Polish Academy of Sciences. The data originate from field sampling conducted across various regions and include information on taxonomy, geographic location, and sampling details. The dataset was compiled to support studies on the distribution and diversity of Juniperus taxa.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 119 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
The dataset was compiled using material collected within multiple research projects, including the project "Geographical differentiation of Juniperus oxycedrus and related taxa from the Mediterranean refugia of Pleistocene flora" (N N303 1534 33), funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education but also Taxonomic position and geographic variation of Juniperus drupacea. (Original title: Pozycja taksonomiczna i geograficzne zróżnicowanie Juniperus drupacea). Project funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (N N303 153037). Project duration: 2009-2011. Sampling Methods
Samples of cones and short segments of shoots from the most recent growth were collected separately from the southern side of individual trees, at a height of approximately 1.0–2.5 m above ground level. Plant material was collected from natural populations, with samples taken from different parts of the canopy to ensure representativeness. Each sampled individual was georeferenced using GPS or, when necessary, later georeferenced based on locality descriptions.
| Study Extent | The study covers populations of Juniperus species distributed across Europe, Western Asia, and the Mediterranean region. Sampling was conducted between 2001 and 2015 in natural habitats representing the geographical range of the studied taxa. |
|---|---|
| Quality Control | Species identification was verified by taxonomic experts. Geographic coordinates were checked for consistency and converted to decimal degrees when necessary. Data were standardized according to Darwin Core standards and validated prior to publication. |
Method step description:
- Data were compiled from field records and laboratory documentation. Geographic coordinates were standardized to the WGS84 system. Taxonomic names were harmonized, and authorship information was separated from scientific names. The dataset was structured according to Darwin Core standards and prepared for publication in GBIF.
