[Occurence records gathered in two student projects during Biodiversity Data course at University of Warsaw. In the first project, Plantago lanceolata occurence data was gathered in three study areas in Pole Mokotowskie Park. Between 29.05.2024 and 01.06.2024, 155 occurence records and 5 preserved specimens were gathered. The second project involved collecting 144 occurrence records of Armoracia rusticana (G. Gaertn. et al.), including 8 preserved specimens, in Park Pięciu Sióstr next to Warsaw West Station on 26.05.2024. All preserved specimens were deposited in the University of Warsaw Herbarium.]

[The collection Psylloidea is a collection derived from over 40 years of scientific work by Professor Sędzimir Maciej Klimaszewski, who studied this group of insects, conducted field research, collected specimens of the insects and created their collection. This collection also includes specimens collected during scientific expeditions, mainly from Mongolia, and some materials obtained through exchange with other scientists. The collection was enriched with new specimens by Jowita Drohojowska. Currently, there are approximately 3,000 marked specimens, classified into 240 species from 6 families of colis. This is the so-called dry collection, and only a small part of it (5%) is in the form of microscopic preparations.]

[By far the most species-rich individual beetle collection at MNHW, gathered in several decades preceding WWII. It consists of two separate units, the general collection (RSG) covering all beetle families from the (mostly Western) Palaearctic (93 original drawers), and the worldwide collection of water beetles from the suborder Adephaga (Hydradephaga, RSH), which was a favourite group in R. Scholz’s taxonomical studies and publications (20 new drawers). The collection comprises in all about 62500 pinned specimens (RSG: 56700, RSH: 5800) of about 9400 species and subspecies (RSG: 8900, RSH: 500 - in part duplicated in RSG). It covers primarily Central European fauna of all beetle families, and it has been focused on the area of Silesia. [The major part of the database contains faunistic data extracted from the Curculionidae collection of the late prof. Stanisław Smreczyński who was the world renown specialist on this group of coleopterans. Most of the specimens come from the present areas of Poland and Ukraine albeit with a significant admixture of European fauna. The majority of them have been collected in the first half of the XX century. The second much smaller part of the database contains data on the family Chrysomelidae from Poland. [This small database contains faunistic records of three species of Stink Bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) extracted from the specimens housed in the scientific collection of ISEA PAS. The elaborated species are Ancyrosoma albolineatum (Fabricius, 1791), Podopis inuncta (Fabricius, 1775), and Graphosoma lineatum (Linnaeus, 1758). The majority of records come from South Poland or western Ukraine with single records of G. lineatum from Austria. These are mostly historical data because specimens were collected at the turn of the XIXth and XX centuries.]

[The database contains 31,779 records of flies (Diptera) from the ISEA PAS collection (Krakow, Poland). With few exceptions, a single record refers to one specimen of the Diptera imago. In the case of materials obtained from breeding, it may also refer to a pupa, exuvium, or gall. The most numerous in the database are Diptera from the Brachycera group - Syrphidae, Tephritidae, Muscidae, Tachinidae, Empididae, Asilidae, Chloropidae and several smaller families. Among Nematocera, only Bibionidae and Scatopsidae were included. Specimens were collected in the period from the second half of the 19th century to 2022, most of them in Poland. A small portion of the specimens comes from other European countries (e.g. Ukraine, Bulgaria, former Yugoslavia).]

[The dataset contains a selection of the Lepidoptera material housed in the Scientific Collection of ISEA PAS. There are representatives of both butterflies (superfamily Papilionoidea) and many other groups of moths for example Noctuoidea, Tortricidae, or Pyraloidea. The majority of taxa represent Palaearctic fauna, but some of them come from tropical regions of Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. The database contains both specimens collected during recent fieldwork but also historical materials collected in the first half of the XX century. [The Carpathian Mountains are the center of lichen species diversity in Poland. They are a refuge for many rare species not only on a national scale but also within their entire ranges. The database contains a taxonomically and nomenclatural revised list of lichens and associated fungi reported from the Polish Carpathians up to 2003. The taxonomic concept is based on monographic studies, and the nomenclature of taxa generally follows Index Fungorum (2020) and MycoBank databases (2020). The distribution data for each species was also verified. For each species, the distribution at the level of macro- and mesoregions is given according to the physical-geographical regionalization of the Carpathians (Kondracki 1989). Next to each species within a region, there are references to source materials. These are bibliographic citations or acronyms of herbaria (KRAM, KRA, MIN, UGDA, OPUN) where unpublished herbarium specimens are available. The initial source material was a checklist by Bielczyk (2003). Critical analysis of this study made it possible to indicate species that should be excluded from the list of lichens of the Polish Carpathians or some regions, due to their misidentification or nomenclatural changes. It should be noted that since 2003 the list of Carpathian lichens has grown significantly (cf. Bielczyk et al. 2020).]

[The mycological collection of the Institute of Biological Sciences at UMCS is an important part of the Institute of Botanical Science herbarium. It is registered in the Index Herbariorum under the acronym LBL (http://sweetgum.nybg.org/science/ih/). Scientific collections have been collected since the establishment of the University in 1945. The collection consists of approximately 187,000 specimens. The mycological collection includes true fungi (approx. 40,000 specimens), lichens (lichen-forming fungi, ~145,000) and fungus-like organisms (~2,000). Fungal specimens come mainly from Poland, to a lesser extent from abroad (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Great Britain, South Korea). However, lichen specimens (except Poland) come from almost all over Europe, but also from all continents in the world (from both Americas, Asia, Africa, Australia). Among fungi, but especially among lichens, there are many nomenclature types on the basis of which species new to science have been described. The current database of fungi and lichens contains 53,988 records (13,681 and 40,307 respectively). Therefore, a significant part remains to be digitized, over 2/3 of the entire collection.]

[Entomological collections include over 20,000,000 specimens, representing over 5,400 species, mainly from eastern Poland. They are stored dry, in the form of permanent microscopic sliders, or preserved in alcohol. Many of them still require detailed study. They are of great scientific value, both in Poland and Europe. This is evidenced by the presence of 21 specimens of descriptive types, including 11 holotypes and 10 paratypes. The collection includes approximately 10,000 specimens of beetles, bugs and butterflies caught mainly in the second half of the last century in Bulgaria, Romania, the southern and western parts of present-day Ukraine, as well as in the former Soviet republics, mainly in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, as well as in Iran.]

[The dataset contains the quantity of macrozoobenthic organisms collected at eight stations across two sampling locations (ML - open coast, MW - Vistula prodelta) along the southern coast of the Baltic Sea (latitude 54.373 to 54.978, longitude 17.331 to 19.255). Macrofauna samples were collected in three replicates during two research campaigns onboard s/y Oceania in January-February and October 2019 using Van Veen grabs. Samples were sieved over a 0.5 mm mesh size sieve and preserved in formaldehyde solution. Organisms were identified under a stereomicroscope to the lowest possible taxonomic level, counted, and weighed (wet weight). The dataset presents the abundance (A) in numbers of individuals per square meter, and biomass (B) in grams per square meter.]

[This dataset contains data on the distribution of protected fungi from Poland, collected in the book ""Protected Fungi of Poland. Distribution, Threats, Conservation Recommendations"". The book is Poland's first comprehensive and extensive monograph covering all fungal species currently protected in the country. The data on distribution of taxa were gathered from published records (MaterialCitation), experts' observations (HumanObservation), and herbarium specimens deposited in public collections (PreservedSpecimens). In this book, all distribution data were presented in ATMOS square system (10 km by 10 km). In this dataset, the centroid of each square (with coordinate uncertainty in meters to cover whole square) is given as coordinate of specific taxon. The monograph is the result of a project under the auspices of the Polish Mycological Society and produced by team of twenty authors, complies as much information as possible about the 117 species of fungi which are currently under legal protection in Poland. [A list of taxa gathered and/or recorded during Field Mycology course on 19-25 September 2021 organized by 4EU+ alliance in a village of Hajnówka in the Białowieża Primeval Forest and near Białowieża National Park. Participants took trips to various forest sites near Hajnówka and one trip to Władysław Szafer Nature Reserve, collected various fungi and fungi-like organisms, and identified them during laboratory classes. Some specimens were dried, preserved, and deposited in the Herbarium of the University of Warsaw (WA), Warsaw, Poland and the Herbarium of the Charles University (PRC), Prague, Czech Republic. Others were only recorded as observations in the field. The list includes mostly non-lichenised macrofungi, with a few phytopathogenic basidiomycetes, ascomycetes, and Oomycota, one lichenized basidiomycete, and five records of slime molds. Most records were identified to a species level, there are a few identified only to a genus, and several with tentative species identifications. Some identifications were confirmed using ITS1/ITS2 sequencing. Preserved specimens were mostly deposited in the Herbarium of the University of Warsaw (WA); some specimens were deposited in the Herbarium of the Charles University of Prague (PRC).]

[The dataset presents list of fungal collections gathered during the eight day inventory in Białowieża Primeval Forest during 18th Congress of European Mycologists held in Warsaw and Białowieża, from 16 to 21 September 2019. The database consists of 171 occurrences (101 collections and 70 observations), representing 142 species. Among them 6 are strictly- and 2 partially protected in Poland. Additionally, 24 species are on the Polish Red Lists and 2 are listed on the IUCN Red List. Finally, the study resulted in the discovery of 5 species new in Poland and 3 that were not previously reported from Białowieża Primeval Forest. As one of the Congress’ goals was to boost sharing data on fungal distribution via GBIF, this dataset is a pioneering fulfilment of the presented postulates.]

[This is a part of a research database of Dept. of Ecology, containing results of a study of ecology of small mammals. The material has been collected in the western-central part of Poland close to the of village Turew. The area is mainly of agricultural character, where woodlots are sorrouned by extensive crop fields. The study area involved six woodlots of diferent size (from 1,5 ha to 9,5 ha) and isolation, varying in distance to neighboring forest patches from 5 m to approximately 900 m. To estimate the effects of spatial distibution and variability habitat patches in a landscape on population dynamics of small rodents the CMR (catch-mark-release) method was used. [The studies were carried out between January and November 2006 in the southern suburban part of Warsaw, Poland. The area consists of the forested Morysin Reserve, Wilanowski Park and adjoining open fields and meadows. Small mammals (rodents and shrews) were trapped using live-traps (CMR method) in May and November, five days in each month. The bats were caught using chiropterology nets at the and of June, in July and in October.
